Child of the Sea

Unfortunately, a lot of rubbish gets washed up from the sea on our local beach and one day when I was walking along it, I found a mysterious creature smothered in sand. I pulled it out of the sand and realised that it was the sodden remains of a teddy bear.
I lugged it home, washed out the sand. We cleaned and scrubbed it, dried and brushed it then stuffed it. What a beauty! Some child must have been heartbroken when it fell overboard from a boat.
We christened him Nong Talee - which means child of the sea and Nong Talee is now our mascot at Faasai Resort and Spa. He sits at our outdoor pavilion to welcome guests.
Unfortunately, the beautiful Kung Wiman beach is often spoiled by trash. Some guests complain about it and some join us at the beach to help clean it up.
We have found that, like our bear, most rubbish is washed ashore and is even covered in barnacles. While the local authorities do try to clean it up and have provided plentiful bins for collecting rubbish, solving the problem of stuff falling or being dumped in the sea is a national problem.
But at least we can all do something as individuals by following the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle and by collecting rubbish off the beach. Sometimes we may even find an unexpected treasure!
